The Ultimate Utah July Guide: Fireworks, Rodeos, Pioneer Day & Summer Traditions
If there is one month that feels like Utah, it's July.
Long evenings. Mountain sunsets. Backyard BBQs. Farmers markets. Rodeos. Fireworks. Small-town celebrations that somehow feel bigger than the holidays themselves.
Whether you're new to Utah or you've lived here your entire life, July is packed with traditions worth experiencing at least once.
Here's your guide to making the most of it.
July’s Two Biggest Holidays
Independence Day (July 4)
Freedom Festival | Provo
One of Utah's largest Independence Day celebrations featuring concerts, events, races, and the famous Stadium of Fire.
Murray Fun Days
A classic hometown celebration with a parade, carnival, entertainment, and fireworks.
West Jordan Western Stampede
Think rodeos, concerts, carnival rides, food vendors, and one of the state's biggest fireworks shows.
Herriman Days
One of the fastest-growing community celebrations in Utah with events, live entertainment, a parade, and fireworks.
Pioneer Day (July 24)
If you're new to Utah, Pioneer Day might surprise you.
Celebrated every July 24, Pioneer Day commemorates the arrival of Brigham Young and the first Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in 1847.
Locals often call it Utah's second Fourth of July.
Expect parades, rodeos, drone shows, family reunions, neighborhood celebrations, and another excuse to spend an entire day outside.
Days of '47 Parade
One of Utah's most beloved traditions. Floats, horses, marching bands, community groups, and families lining the streets year after year.
Days of '47 Rodeo
One of the premier rodeos in the West and a bucket-list Utah experience.
This Is The Place Heritage Park
Perfect for families looking to experience Utah history through demonstrations, pioneer activities, and hands-on exhibits.
The Rodeos Worth Planning Around
Even if you've never been to a rodeo, July is the perfect time to start.
They're one of the most uniquely Utah summer experiences.
Days of '47 Rodeo
Salt Lake City's signature rodeo and one of the largest events of the summer.
Oakley Rodeo
A local favorite with incredible mountain views and authentic small-town western roots.
Spanish Fork Fiesta Days Rodeo
One of the largest and most attended rodeos in the state.
Small-Town Utah Summer
One of the things I love most about Utah is that some of the best summer memories happen in places many people drive right past.
Butlerville Days
Cottonwood Heights' hometown celebration is packed with community events and fireworks.
Draper Days
A longtime favorite featuring a parade, concerts, rodeo events, and fireworks.
Best Summer Events Happening This Month
Park Silly Sunday Market | Park City
Part farmers market.
Part street festival.
Part people watching.
All fun.
Salt Lake Bees Baseball
Nothing says summer quite like baseball, hot dogs, sunshine, and a warm Utah evening.
What to Watch For This Month
Wildflower Season
July is peak wildflower season in Utah's higher elevations.
Some of my favorite places to experience it:
Albion Basin
Cecret Lake
Brighton Trails
Guardsman Pass
Go early. Bring water. Take photos.
Thank me later.
Reminder to stay on the designated paths and no dogs allowed in the Cottonwood Canyons.
Farmers Market Season
A few local favorites:
Downtown Farmers Market
Wheeler Farm Farmers Market
Park Silly Sunday Market
July is the perfect month for local peaches, cherries, fresh flowers, and vegetables.
Escape the Heat
When Salt Lake starts creeping toward triple digits, head uphill.
Some of my favorite July escapes:
Millcreek Canyon
Big Cottonwood Canyon
Silver Lake at Brighton
Guardsman Pass
Sundance
The temperatures can easily be 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the valley floor.
Your Ultimate Utah July Weekend

Saturday Morning
Hit the farmers market and pick up fresh flowers.
Saturday Afternoon
Escape to the mountains for a hike or scenic drive.
Saturday Night
Head to a rodeo.
Sunday
Slow morning. Brunch. Time with friends and family. Maybe a mountain lake if you're feeling ambitious.
Simple.
Nothing fancy.
Just the kind of summer weekend you'll remember years from now.
Where You'll Find Me This July
If you're looking for me this month, there's a good chance I'm somewhere on Salt Lake's east bench with an iced drink in hand.
A few places you'll probably catch me:
Hiking Millcreek Canyon before it gets too hot
Picking up flowers at the farmers market
Finding a patio for dinner with Isaac
Taking Monty on an adventure
Escaping to the mountains whenever the valley starts feeling like an oven
Enjoying a rodeo somewhere in Utah
But on Pioneer Day?
You'll find me in Panguitch.
My family has roots in southern Utah that go back generations, and every year we gather for the Hatch family reunion and the Panguitch Pioneer Day Parade.
It's one of those traditions that reminds me why I love living here.
Grandparents, cousins, old friends, kids chasing candy down Main Street, and stories that somehow get a little better every year.
Utah is full of events and celebrations.
But it's the traditions that keep people coming back.
And this one is my favorite.
Living Well Starts at Home
People often ask me why I love Utah so much.
It's not just the mountains.
It's not the ski resorts.
It's not even the summers.
It's the traditions.
The annual parade.
The family reunion.
The neighborhood barbecue.
The farmers market you visit every Saturday.
The hike you take every summer with the people you love.
Those are the moments that turn a place into home.
And July is full of them.
